Whether you train with us or not we welcome you to our web page. We hope it provides you with some interesting material. You should visit the site regularly as we will be placing several illustrated self-defence methods on line at the beginning of each month.
Our system has a proud and long history, combining traditional moves from Asia with modern moves and stances from Western civilisation. It is multi-faceted having equal weighting and bias on:

We have a system that allows a student who trains twice a week to achieve their first black belt level (Shodan-Ho) after 4 years of dedicated training. For the first 3 months new students will find the things we do awkward, this is normal and the feeling is soon replaced by one of learning. Our students all work very hard as we are committed to both healthy minds and bodies. A strong body is necessary to be effective in our martial art as the moves are explosive and continuous.
The instructors from our system are all accredited by the Australian Coaching Council and they are required to consider the safety of our students before any other aspect of the system. We are not ego driven or politically minded and welcome students from other styles as visitors to our classes.
Our system has 9 steps to black belt. The steps begin at 9th Kyu (white belt) and climb to 1st Kyu (brown belt with 2 black stripes). There are then 6 levels of Black Belt and these are called Dan gradings. By definition Kyu means boy and Dan means man therefore when a student achieves Shodan-Ho level they have become a man in our system. The terms boy and man are not meant to be prejudicial to females, rather it is a reflection of past Asian history when women did not train in martial arts openly. These days 50% of our student body is female and we are a totally equal opportunity organisation.
Our system is slightly different for Men and Women and significantly different for Children. Women train with men but are encouraged to strike with an open hand (cotton palm), kick to the groin and strike to the eyes. Women are also not placed in positions where they are at risk of being hurt by Men who are physically stronger. Men, are encouraged to participate in our controlled sparring sessions (which are similar to Kick Boxing) and at a senior level, men are involved in the breaking of cement blocks and tiles at gradings.
Children are trained in extremely controlled situations and they are led to believe they are striking balloons or kicking soccer balls. We are very careful not to escalate individual violence levels and actively encourage study at school. We denounce cigarettes and drugs as dreadful things to be involved with.
Our system is a very close knit and friendly place. Our students come from a vast array of different backgrounds. Some are professional (Doctors and Lawyers) others are Business Managers and others are blue collared workers. What ever your background we welcome any one that is friendly, affable and wants to train hard and dedicate themselves to a worthwhile activity.
